Cigar shop etiquette

I was in a shop earlier today and the propietor was in the humidor with me. As he suggested sticks, I picked one up to inspect. Gave a close look to the wrapper, gave it a sniff, then rolled it in my fingers a bit to feel how tight or loose it felt. My guy got huffy saying that one shouldn't squeeze cigars inside a humidor. Said he's thrown people out before for that. This is the first time I've heard this. AITA?
