Am I crazy or have Mosquitoes gotten bigger?

Hi, I'm not sure this is the right place to ask but I feel like mosquitoes have doubled or even tripled in size basically over the span of a year. I live in Italy, we're used to getting swarmed by the little buggers but this year not only are they starting to swarm earlier than they usually would they are gigantic. As in "I mistook one for a crane fly" gigantic. Is this even something that's possible in such a short timespan?
