Struggling to break into project coordinator roles despite relevant experience
I feel stuck career-wise and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong
I’m a recent grad based in Toronto trying to break into project coordination / project admin / assistant-type roles, and it’s been way harder than I expected.
I have experience coordinating projects (internship), supporting operations, handling documentation, working with stakeholders, etc. I’ve also been tailoring my resume for each role, applying consistently, and even trying to network but I’m either getting rejected or just not hearing back at all.
Right now I’m in a role that doesn’t really align with where I want to go (more admin/reception-heavy), and it’s honestly frustrating because I feel like I’m capable of more but can’t seem to get my foot in the right door.
What I’m struggling with:
- Not sure if my experience actually “counts” for project coordinator roles
- Not getting interviews even when I feel like I meet most requirements
- Feeling like I’m stuck in entry-level admin work with no clear path out
For anyone who’s been in a similar position:
How did you break into project coordination roles? What made your resume stand out?
Are there specific skills/tools I should focus on more?
I’m open to honest feedback, even if it’s tough to hear. I just want to figure out what I’m missing.
Thanks in advance.
