Eyeshadow pencil or liquid recommendations

I am wondering if anyone has a good eyeshadow pencil or liquid shadow they recommend.

I have always used powder and the other day I decided to try my Elf liquid contour as a shadow. I loved that there was no fallout and it blended so well. I quickly ordered the elf liquid shadows but I don't love how matte they are.

I am 44 and just felt they looked too dry. Also, my eyelids were slightly swollen this am. I am unsure if it's from the contour I used two days ago or the shadow.

I will mention I am allergic to carmine.
