Do I need an FBI background check for a French visa?

I will be applying for a long stay visa in May and I want to make sure I have everything I need. I had a background check done at the end of January for my first visa application, which was denied because I was missing a favorable opinion for my business (which I now have) but I am struggling to find if I need a background check and if so, is one from January too old? TIA!
