Medical Device Carry-On Experience

Hello! I am a new CPAP user and am planning on flying to Taiwan via Starlux in a couple of weeks. I don't plan on using the device in flight, just at the hotel when I arrive.

Most of the information I've read says that medical devices are exempt from the carry-on requirements, but I just called Starlux, and a representative told me that I need to fill out the Medical Information Form, have it signed within 10 days of my flight, and submit it to Starlux for approval. However, he also told me that my device counts as my carry-on baggage, so I need to factor that in. According to their own website, medical or assistive equipment counts as a special item in the cabin and may be carried into the cabin without being considered part of the hand-carry baggage or personal item allowance.

Has anyone flown with a portable medical device on Starlux, and was it counted as baggage? And is there anything else I need to make sure I do before I fly to make this easier?

I saw another thread where the user had a problem with a last-minute flight because they didn't submit the medical information form for the first leg, but I should have enough time.
