Invited a girl out with friends. She knew my fiancée & what happened next derailed the entire night.
So last night I experienced what can only be described as a full-blown social fever dream, and I need to share it with people who will understand.
Me and two girls I met on Bumble BFF have become really good friends recently. Like, instant vibes, tons of similarities, we laugh nonstop—it’s great. So we decided to go to trivia night and thought, “let’s expand the group!” and invited a new girl.
We were slightly hesitant because she was a bit younger than us, but we were like whatever—more friends, more fun.
Here’s where it starts getting weird.
Originally, my fiancé was supposed to come with us. I tell him this girl’s name and age and he makes a face and goes, “wait… can I see a picture?”
I show him.
He goes, “Yeah… I’ve slept with her.”
🙂
Cool. Love that for me.
This was a few months before we met, so not cheating or anything—just… unfortunate timing. So I’m like okay, no big deal, we’re adults, BUT maybe let’s not have you there for this specific outing.
So I uninvite him, thinking I’m being mature and emotionally evolved.
HAHA.
So we get to trivia night. I’m at the bar getting drinks, and my friend Hillary meets her first. I come back and Hillary immediately gives me a look. You know the look. The “something is off but I don’t know what yet” look.
The girl is clearly nervous, which I get, so I’m trying to be warm and normal.
We start doing basic introductions. At one point I mention I used to be a probation officer.
She immediately says her ex-husband is currently in jail for domestic violence… and her current boyfriend is on probation for domestic violence.
So that’s the vibe.
At one point Hillary gets up, and it’s just me and the new girl sitting at the table.
And I’m like… I cannot sit on this information all night.
So I go, “Hey girl, this is a little awkward, but I think you might have hooked up with my fiancé before we met.”
Her face changes immediately.
She goes, “Oh my god… is his name Josh? Does he own a house?”
I’m like “…yes??”
And then she goes:
“He drugged me and raped me.”
I’m sorry—WHAT.
Like full system shutdown. Brain = buffering. Windows shutting down noise.
I genuinely did not know how to respond. She doubles down and starts telling a story about him trying to get her to smell something and grabbing a drink away from her.
Right at that moment, Hillary walks back up to the table, sees my face, and is immediately like “…what is happening?”
I excuse myself and basically sprint to the bathroom where I find Taylor and go, “you are NOT going to believe what is happening right now.”
While I’m in the bathroom, apparently she turns to Hillary and says:
“If you care about Jade, you’ll intervene in that relationship.”
She also tells Hillary that her and Josh were “a thing” for a few days and that she was going to move into the third floor of his house.
My fiancé lives in a one-story house… with a basement.
So… no third floor.
At this point I’m internally spiraling but trying to hold it together like a normal human being in public.
We go back to the table and attempt to continue the night like normal people.
Except it does not get normal.
It gets… progressively more unhinged.
Throughout the night she tells us:
• She has a hole in her heart BUT also runs 10Ks on the weekends
• She’s a great runner but too anxious to join a run club
• She went through alcohol withdrawals AND said she had to detox off something (unclear if alcohol or drugs)
• She was in a horrible abusive relationship and had to sleep in a closet so her boyfriend wouldn’t hit her
• She’s “newly single”
Okay.
Then 20 minutes later, we’re talking about dating apps, and she shows us her phone background… which is a man flexing shirtless.
While bragging about her hot boyfriend.
So… not single???
She also mentions she’s a nurse. Then says she’s in school for chemistry and wants to be a pediatric oncology nurse. She brings up her college-level chemistry classes multiple times. Then later says her boyfriend is a nurse.
At this point we don’t know who is the nurse. We don’t know who is in school. We don’t know what is real.
At one point Taylor mentions she once went on a date with a pilot, and this girl IMMEDIATELY goes, “Yeah I used to date a neuroscientist.”
Like it was just constant one-upping, contradictions, and absolute chaos.
We’re all just sitting there like 😀👍 trying to survive the FIRST ROUND of trivia.
Then, before the second round even starts, she gets a phone call, steps away, comes back, and goes, “I have to leave, there’s an emergency.”
And just… leaves.
We do the polite “text us when you get home safe!” and “we should totally hang out again!” performance—knowing full well that we will, in fact, not be doing that.
The three of us immediately start rapid-fire talking like “wait what just happened??” “did she just say—” “no because rewind—” trying to process everything in real time.
We genuinely spent the next 30 minutes laughing, piecing together the timeline of events, and questioning reality.
After I got home, I talked to my fiancé. He was completely blindsided and adamantly denied everything. His reaction seemed genuinely confused and upset, which is what I would expect.
He also told me something that made the whole situation even stranger.
Apparently when they had hooked up, she had left her car at his house for a week. When she finally came back to get it, she told him she had been drugged and raped at a party that same week… and that’s when she claimed she developed Parkinson’s.
Some of the stories she told us that night lined up eerily with what she had told him back then.
So now I’m just sitting here like…
What. Did. We. Experience.
We just wanted to make a new friend and instead got dropped into what felt like an episode of a psychological thriller.
Anyway. Safe to say we will NOT be expanding the group again anytime soon.
