Credit after Bankruptcy
(Note: Canadian bankruptcy here)
Hello all,
I filed for bankruptcy last August and I expect to be discharged in about a month.
A few days after I filed, I applied for a Capital One secured card and got approved. About a month ago I got a credit limit increase offer which I accepted, bringing my limit to $3,750.
Last September I also applied for a Triangle Mastercard and was rejected and told I could reapply in 6 months. So last month I reapplied and was pleasantly surprised to be approved with a $500 limit.
Needless to say I haven't been late with a payment on these cards.
Again I will be discharged in a month. My present big 5 bank, not the one I bankrupted my way out of, is soft pulling my credit file every month so that is encouraging.
Wondering if anyone has any experience with getting a big 5 credit card or an Amex after bankruptcy. I had an Amex about 10 years ago but paid it off and closed it in good standing and haven't had a card with them since that time. I was told by my present big 5 that they won't consider me until discharge but that once discharged, a year of clean Capital One reporting (as I am presently on month 8) would be seen very positively. They also suggested cash savings in a TFSA would help my application.
Thanks.
