Free SQL Server knowledge base
I just published a free SQL Server knowledge base. 256 articles covering wait types, DMVs, error codes, and troubleshooting scenarios.
Every article has copy-paste diagnostic queries. No login, no email gate.
Why? Because every time I need to look up a wait type at 2am, I end up with 15 browser tabs open cross-referencing a Stack Overflow answer from 2014, a blog post that covers half the story, and Microsoft docs that give me one sentence.
I wanted one place with the full picture: what it means, when it actually matters, how to diagnose it, what to do about it.
Some examples of what's in there:
- Why CXPACKET is almost always a false alarm
- The 14 different states of Error 18456 (and what each one actually means)
- A recursive CTE that maps your entire blocking chain back to the head blocker
- How to tell if your PAGEIOLATCH waits are a storage problem or a memory problem
It's all at https://autodba.samix-technology.com/sql-server
This is the same reference material that powers AutoDBA's diagnostics. I figured, why not just make it public.
Still adding to it. If there's a topic you want covered, drop a comment.
