I was rewatching the interview they did with UnReligiously on YouTube and during the discussion on the purity ring fiasco something caught my attention. P was explaining (talking for and over S) his rationale for the purity ring looking like an engagement ring and if you pay attention you’ll notice he says something along the lines of “it (the ring) is supposed to look like an engagement ring because that’s essentially what it is. It was listed as *promise* ring or engagement ring”. Now, I do not come from an overly religious family and have never dealt with that kinda thing but…are promise rings and purity rings completely different? From my understanding a promise ring is a symbol of commitment in the same way an engagement ring is. It makes sense that they would look similar. A purity ring is not the same kind of commitment and if you do a quick google search for “purity ring” you’ll see that most don’t look like engagement rings at all.

This doesn’t reveal anything that we don’t already know about him but just demonstrates the things he does to pretend he’s in a relationship with his daughter. At best, he actually doesn’t know the different between the two and purchased what reflected his internal desires. At worst he knew exactly what he was getting and is hoping we don’t know the different. Sick either way.

Something I noticed re: purity ring
