About a month ago I set about trying to convert all of the Endless Space 2 races into factions for Twilight Imperium. I'm pleased to say that I've mostly finished up my project, and will be unveiling all twelve factions one by one in the coming days! Endless Space 2 is a 4X strategy game that has vibes that are very similar to Twilight Imperium. I did my best to keep the factions as close as possible to the playstyles they liked to adopt in the strategy game.

A huge shoutout goes to Ascendantempires.com. This website is what I used to make all of the factions, and is an incredibly well made tool for any other potential creators. It isn't completely finished yet, but I found it incredibly helpful for tinkering with designs that were kicking around in my head. Here is the link for the Sophonity faction: [https://ascendantempires.com/en/factions/view/41/](https://ascendantempires.com/en/factions/view/40/)

So, this post is introducing the Sophonity, which was one of my more fun designs. They are all about technology, but in a very different way than the Deepwrought or the Jol'Nar, in that they get their extra technology completely at random. The trade-off to all of this extra tech is that they can risk their fleet pool tokens each time they get one, and you never know what you are going to get.

They are definitely a huge slot-machine of a faction, and I worked with trying to get them as controlled as possible by giving them several different ways to skip around the tech tree. In the ES2 game, the Sophons got bonuses for researching tech that nobody else had gotten, and also bonuses for having more tech than anyone else, so I made those both into big sub-themes for the faction. I gave them a tech skip in their home system, which I think is a bit of neat design that is only slightly ruined by the fact it makes their expedition basically free. But factions like Naluu and Keleres also get basically free breakthroughs, so I don't think this is a problem overall and it was taken into account when I designed them.

Out of all the factions, these are definitely the ones that will be hardest to understand in a vacuum and really need some actual games being play tested before I can determine how they look.

So, let me know what you think about the faction, and look forward to tomorrow where I will introduce the Craver Swarm!
