year long perioral dermatitis flare help (also history or recurrent c diff)
so i've been in about a year long flare up with little breaks in between (the longest i went without a flare during this past year was maybe a month). in june is when i was initially diagnosed, then took topical metrogel for 7 weeks, it seemed to work for the first 3 weeks then after that it stopped working. i got switched to mupirocin and that seemed to work the best. took it for about it a month. then i was prescribed oral metrodonizole and ended up getting c diff because of that and that has been a whole thing so i put the POD healing journey on hold until im better. i ended up needing to take vowst (a fecal microbial transplant in pill form 😖). took that in the beginning of january and my gut is still healing from all that.
anyway i went to the dermatologist a few weeks ago and they prescribed me topical clindamycin. and because of my recurrent c diff history i am not comfortable taking an antibiotic, even if it is topical because although it's rare, topical antibiotics can become systemic and cause c diff so i told them i am not comfortable taking that. i don't know what to do anymore, as there aren't any options as to what to prescribe me so i guess i need help on figuring out what skincare routines can help prevent flares, and also what can help clear up a flare. im also prone to getting blackheads around the edge of my lip so i cant use any creams that might clog my pores
im not comfortable taking pimecrolimus cream either bc apparently that can lead to cancer in some cases. i understand the risk is low and that babies even use pimecrolimus cream, but it is just not a risk i am comfortable taking. i tried the honest brand zinc oxide diaper rash cream, but that seemed to irritate it more but also kinda help at the same time idk how to explain it. the rash itself got better from it, but it clogged my pores and created more pustules. i started using the zinc oxide at night and then used good molecules azelaic acid 10% during the day, and that seemed to kind of help but i stopped doing it after about a week because it seemed to be doing better. maybe i should try sticking to that routine longer idk. i started using just the azelaic acid the past couple of days bc it seemed to be really not bad, but now its flaring up some more again. i think because my face got really oily yesterday from eating fast food. but how am i supposed to wash my face after every single time i eat? that's just not always possible. i'm just wondering what should i do. the dermatologist i was going to wasn't very helpful, they weren't very responsive or receptive. they kept mixing up things i was saying.
i guess im just wondering, whats a good skincare routine you might recommend?
