Charged me $440 for federal filing?
This seems like an excessive price for a straightforward federal filing. Have prices really increased this much?
For context, I had an in-person appointment today at an Austin location. No pricing was provided upfront, and only after completing the brief session was I told it would be $440. When I asked why it was so much (especially considering it was $270 last year at this same time) the staff simply said "that's what it costs."
I ended up paying it so I could get to my next appointment, but it's still bothering me. I tried calling a corporate H&R customer service number and got nowhere. What are others paying for federal filings? Does anyone have a customer service number where you can actually reach a real person?
