RD struggling with building a wardrobe
I’ve been exploring Rita’s system for 2-3 years now, and while the logic piece resonates with me, I struggle with applying it to actual style choices/purchases.
None of the individual RD archetypes particularly fit me in terms of aesthetic. I like LD more in that way, but my logic is very RD (external world, what I need in the situation, high emphasis on cohesion, things can easily feel like “too much”).
For me, this means my clothes often fall into categories based on situation/setting: ultra casual (lounging, exercising), social but still casual, professional, and dressy/event. Some pieces overlap into multiple categories but many don’t. I’ve always been like this, even prior to discovering the system lol.
This is a struggle because I strive to live a minimalist lifestyle and I want so badly to have the perfect capsule wardrobe, where I have a small number of clothes that all go together and can be worn for pretty much any event. I have ADHD so less stuff and easier decisions is hugely beneficial. But because of my style logic, this is very hard in practice.
In the past I’ve done seasonal capsules which felt like too much (in terms of both physical items & mental load). More recently I’ve had my clothes physically separated by these situations. However, this somehow feels like simultaneously too much and too little. I find myself cyclically giving away a bunch of clothes because it feels overwhelming, only to buy new ones to fill in gaps which is the opposite of my goal and feels distressing as someone who genuinely doesn’t want to over-consume! I’m really trying to pare down and build a capsule wardrobe that works for my lifestyle, but keep getting stuck on the external world-heavy logic.
Can anyone relate? Has anyone overcome this? I am stuck in analysis paralysis. Help meeee 😅
