[Hiring] Procreate assistant for ongoing cartoon doodle work ($10–$15 per doodle / drawing)

Hiring

Hello everyone!

I run a health education brand called "This Isn't Medical Advice" and draw cartoon characters and other "doodles" for my newsletter / blog. These are like personified organs like a stressed-out liver, scheming sugar molecule, heart that exercises, etc. I use them to explain health concepts with speech bubbles. You can check them out at thisisntmedadvice.com or on Instagram u/thisisntmedadvice.

What I need is a Procreate production assistant for ongoing work.  You will look at my work and probably think "Whoa, I could do way better than that," and I would like to emphasize that what I'm looking for is NOT someone who can make my artwork better, but simply be my hands and for someone who can draw at my level to fill out some of my illustrations.  The style is intentionally simple and is meant to be imperfect esp in the post-AI world. (I actually have no background in art and learned how to draw in procreate.)

Things that eat up my time are like: repositioning a character into a seated pose, sketching a background, drawing food on a table, etc.  Here are some examples of who I need: someone who can take my existing characters (I'll send you the .procreate files) and

  • Redraw characters in new poses (sitting, flying, jumping, lying down)
  • Draw simple objects and backgrounds in my doodle style (food, furniture, room settings, environments, etc.)
  • Clean up my rough pencil sketches into finished illustrations that match my existing work

What this is NOT:

  • A creative direction role - I will mainly decide the scenes, jokes, dialogue. But you will often have the liberty to draw the scene without any sketches (but aligned with my simple style)
  • A portfolio showpiece - Intentionally supposed to be doodly
  • AI-assisted in any way - must be human-drawn in Procreate

Pay:  $10 for some really simple drawings, sometimes $15-20 for more complicated scenes/backgrounds. I imagine some of these illustrations won't even take 30 minutes for a trained artist.  But there will be a bulk of illustrations to work on - perhaps 10-20 pieces of month depending on the need.

For those that I'm able to vet, I will be running a paid test.

Paid test ($25): I have a new character for my upcoming newsletter called the "Brotein Fairy" — a buff little fairy with a mohawk, wings, and a barbell. I'll send you:

  1. The unfinished character .procreate file (standing pose)
  2. A .procreate file with all my characters from my most recent newsletter
  3. A rough pencil sketch of a scene where the fairy is flying up next to someone's mouth yelling "WAIT — where's the protein?!" right as they're about to eat chocolate

Your job:

  1. Create a scene where the fairy shows up as the "new kid on the block" - maybe a school setting? Where my characters stop in their tracks being alarmed there's a new person who entered the "building."
  2. Clean up the sketch of the scene where the fairy is flying up next to someone's mouth yelling "Wait - where's the protein?!" right as they're about to eat chocolate (this will make sense when you receive the file). Please modify the fairy to be airborne (wings out, floating). The fairy is supposed to be kind of absurd (because this is a one-time character and won't be repeating in any of my other posts, I don't mind some alteration done on your end.)

For both: match the line weight, coloring, and vibe of what's on my website. Deliver as .procreate files with separate layers for characters and backgrounds.

Requirements:

  • Must work in Procreate, deliver .procreate files
  • Absolutely no AI generation (MUST be hand-drawn)
  • Can match a simple cartoon style without "fixing" the characters themselves
  • Reliable 2–3 day turnaround
  • For this specific test, I will need the illustrations by the weekend

To respond: Please drop a few examples of your work (simple cartoony stuff preferred over your most polished portfolio pieces), confirm you use Procreate, and tell me a bit about yourself. I'll send the test files to people who seem like a fit.

Thanks for reading!
