AITAH for seeming distant at the beginning and possibly pushing him away?
I (29F) met a guy (29M) about 3 weeks ago. We talked consistently and saw each other around 4–5 times.
From the beginning, he was very intense — lots of attention, emotional expressions, saying he missed me very early on. I’ll be honest, it felt a bit fast for me. I’m someone who needs time to feel comfortable and open up.
Because of that, I think I came across more distant than I actually felt. At one point I got overwhelmed and acted a bit cold. I do regret that.
The important part is that I realized it and talked to him about it. I explained that I was overwhelmed because of how fast things were going, that I do care, and that I just needed a slower pace.
He said he understood me, and that actually made me feel relieved. We ended that conversation on a positive note, and it felt like we were on the same page.
But the next day, he changed his mind.
He told me that something still didn’t sit right with him, and that he thinks I might hurt him in the future. He also said he had made a similar “mistake” before and didn’t want to repeat it.
I told him I felt that was unfair, because he hasn’t really gotten to know me yet and is already making a decision about what kind of person I am.
Now he wants a few days of no contact to “see how he feels without me.”
I understand that I may not have shown enough interest at the beginning, and I take responsibility for that. But I also feel like things moved so fast that I didn’t have space to be natural.
So AITA for how I acted at the beginning? Did I push him away, or is this more about him?
