My husband has become super religious and it’s taking a toll on our marriage… kicker is I’m also a believer.

My husband and I have been together over 12 years. We both have always believed in god, but in the last 8 months he has become extremely religious. I have been nothing but supportive about it. I’ve have told him multiple times I think it’s amazing he wants to grow his relationship with god.

He reads the bible everyday, only watches or listens to things that has to do with the bible or Christianity. ( I have no problem with that.)

A couple months ago it got to a point where every conversation we had he brought up god or the bible. In these conversation I would tell him that I was interpreting things differently than him. It’s like he would get mad and basically tell me I was wrong and would bring up other scriptures that supported his interpretation. He would come off so aggressive about things that I would just shut down and not want to speak to him about it, which caused more arguments.

This is what started problems between us.

I am a women who like to read smut books, cusses, listens to rock/screamo music. I’m not a perfect Christian and I probably never will be. I have found a group of friends that also loves to read smut books and we started a book club. This has brought me so much joy because I finally have friends that enjoy doing things I like to do.

My husband has basically made me feel like i’m going to hell because of the books I read and music I listen too. Just last week I bought a new dark romance book and was telling my friends I loved it! That same day, he randomly got distant and not really talking to me. At first I thought he was just having a bad day or was tired so I brushed it off. The next day I had a kink in my neck and was telling him I slept wrong. His response back to me was “maybe it’s a demon on your shoulders causing the pain….”

Turns out he’s super upset with me about my dark romance books because “everything is spiritual and books like that welcomes demons in our life, if you read the bible you would know that.”

What do I do? I’m at a loss. I love him so much and want to be with him, but I feel like we have lost our friendship and I have been so unhappy. It’s feels like we’re just roommates raising our kids together now.

I have had thoughts about if I would be happier if we just got divorced so I didn’t feel like someone was trying to force me to change. I’m not saying I never will change my ways, but the way he’s so aggressive about things makes me want to push him and my faith away.(He says he’s passionate about it, not aggressive.)

I feel like I finally got to point in my life where I actually love myself and have finally found friends and a hobby that I enjoy.

But he makes me feel like I am not enough and he hates almost everything I love and enjoy. I have been nothing but supportive of the path he is walking. Why can’t he accept the path I am walking? It’s not like I’m a nonbeliever. I have started going to church with him to show him my support and encourage our children to pray and read about Jesus.

I don’t do everything by the bible, I know that. I know I’m a sinner. Is it so bad that I just want a little joy and laughter in this life?

I don’t want divorce to be the answer but I don’t want to go the rest of my life feeling like this.

And yes, I have talked to him about how I feel and he backs off for a few weeks but then it slowly goes back to this. I don’t know where to go from here.
