In Alabama, as students, we are constantly frustrated with the laptops that schools provide. These computers are often cheap, unreliable, and prone to breaking. They don’t serve their educational purpose effectively, and the limited functionalities prevent us from fully engaging with our schoolwork. It’s hard for us to care for these laptops when they aren't our own, leading to further neglect and damage.

Imagine being able to use your personal laptop for schoolwork—a device that you know and trust, one that you’re comfortable using and carrying everywhere. It’s something that belongs to you, and by granting this opportunity, not only would the students take more responsibility for their devices, but it would also significantly ease our education process.

Moreover, for those who cannot afford or choose not to use a personal laptop, Alabama schools should continue to provide a viable option: a school-issued laptop. This ensures that no student is left behind and everybody can equally have access to the necessary educational resources.

The benefits of allowing personal laptops go beyond mere convenience. It fosters a sense of ownership, increases motivation, and often improves a student's ability to complete their work efficiently and effectively. In today's technology-driven world, being aligned with the tools students will use in their further education and careers is vital.

We need to acknowledge the importance of flexibility and personalization in education technology. We urge Alabama school authorities to implement a policy that allows students to bring their own laptops to school if they choose. This change is not just a luxury, but a fundamental shift toward better educational outcomes.
