I'm a first time DM. Am I screwed?

I wanted to get a TTRPG to the virtual table really bad, and most of us who signed up have a shared love of gothic fiction, my fiancé and I in particular being big fans of Castlevania. But I've never DM'd a game before, and a lot of people are saying they would avoid running Curse of Strahd for as long as possible. Are they right, or does it matter?
