Long Term Career Switch Planning
Hi everyone,
I’m currently working for a tech company in the beginning of my professional career. The job is remote and I like it okay, particularly for the flexibility and mission. The pay is good and I see it growing in the future.
When I think about my future and what work I will be fulfilled by, I find myself returning to the idea of teaching, particularly high school math. I studied math in school and maintain a love for it, and think I would like teaching to be my future long term career. However, the pay and projected pay increase at my current job seem too good to turn down right now for my future goals of owning a house and raising children.
My question is: what things can I do to make me a convincing candidate for a mid career switch to an educator in the next few years? Would you recommend an online masters? Taking vacation days to substitute teach? Tutoring on the side? I want to be maintaining my math skills but also doing things that will make me stand out as a candidate in the future with the disadvantage of not teaching for the last couple of years. Looking for any and all advice, no matter if you think it is harsh.
Thank you and thanks for all you do as educators.
