285 for a tire change+balance? Is this normal in Brussels, or am I being "Expat Taxed"?
Hey everyone,
I’m reaching out because I’m a bit shocked by the quotes I’m getting for a simple tire service.
I just bought a new set of 4 tires online (Continental PremiumContact 7) for my VW Golf Variant 2019 (18" rims). I have them at home, I just need a garage to mount and balance them.
I’ve called a few places around Tervuren, Overijse, and Hoeilaart, and the experience has been bizarre:
- One shop quoted me €280 and said they have no availability until May 8th.
- Another told me they "only work on Subarus" (it’s a tire, not an engine rebuild!).
- A third flat-out refused because I "bought them on the internet."
I’m new to Belgium, so maybe I’m missing something, but back home this is a standard 45-minute job that costs way less. Is there a "secret" to getting tires fitted here if you didn't buy them from the garage?
Does anyone know a reliable, "no-nonsense" garage near Tervuren, Auderghem, or Overijse that:
- Accepts tires bought online?
- Charges a fair price (not €70 per wheel)?
- Doesn't have a 4-week waiting list?
I’m happy to pay a surcharge for bringing my own tires, but €280 feels like a "go away" price. Any recommendations for a local "bandencentrale" or independent shop would be hugely appreciated!
