Why I Traded in my SI

Traded my 2023 Civic Si for a 2024 GTI mainly because I got tired of the 1.5T.

it just feels overworked and lame when you start pushing it. The rev hang, weak low end torque, weak overall power, and the “economy engine trying to be sporty” vibe got old pretty fast to me personally.

I heard a lot of talk about tuning, but it seems that the L15 just isn’t a good engine to tune, and that they blow up really easily and have head gasket issues. This is backed up by the forums on tuning reliability.

The 2.0t in the GTI is on a completely different level, way stronger, smoother, and actually feels like it’s built to handle power. You get real torque down low without needing to beat on it, and it just feels more much nicer overall. With a stage 1 tune I’m getting numbers you’d need a big turbo + full bolt ons to get with an L15, with the constant risk of it exploding.

The Si is still a great chassis, even better than the gti, but the engine alone made the switch worth it for me.

I had an 8th gen, 9th gen, and Rsx-s. Loved those cars so dearly that when my 9th gen gave up I decided I’d buy a new Si. I just felt really disappointed that Honda gives the Si such a mediocre powertrain compared to all of its competitors. The car isn’t even in the same league anymore.
