Do these college class selections look okay to become a forensic biologist?
CLASSES AT ISU: ✅ has it, ❌ doesn’t have it at all, as a minor, or as a major. “major at ISU” means it is a major instead of a minor like desired. N/A means they don’t have it.
✅ Biology (major)
- ✅ Medical Laboratory Science (major)
- ❌ Statistics (minor), major at ISU
- ✅Psychology (minor)
- ✅Chemistry (minor)
- ❌Biochemistry (minor), major at ISU
- ❌Genetics (minor), N/A
- ❌Molecular Biology (minor), major at ISU
- ❌Population Genetics (minor), N/A
I chose ISU as a college to go to (unless there is another college that has more/all of these classes listed) because I am trying to stay in Illinois.
The requirements to become a forensic biologist in my state is:
- Bachelors degree in biology and/or forensic science and 60 completed credit hours in this science.
- 9 semester hours in three DNA class requirements of genetics, biochemistry, and molecular biology, as well as coursework in statistics and/or population genetics. 4 of these classes are REQUIRED (genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, statistics and/or population genetics).
I’m going to major in biology, but what should my other major be? (I want to double major). In other words, what subject is second most important for this field? (medical laboratory science, biochemistry, or molecular biology).
Can I do the other classes (minors) online since ISU doesn’t have it? (Genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, statistics, psychology, population genetics).
Thanks!
