“Generational wars” are complete nonsense and entirely nonproductive.

All throughout time, it’s been the same pattern: one generation attributes a broad set of negative traits to the entire generation below them. That younger generation then gets upset, accusing the older one of its own set of broad overgeneralizations. As for the older generation, it’s always the same complaints repackaged into more socially relevant ones, which more or less come down to “this new generation is lazy,” “they’re lamer than we were,” or the classic, “this new generation is so sensitive.” While it’s necessary to criticize the flaws within each generation, it’s unfair to paint an entire group of people with one brush because of the year they happened to be born into—especially since most of these opinions are mere stereotypes. It also doesn’t accomplish much in the long run. It’s a way for generations to feel better about themselves without doing anything, instead of seeking understanding and judging people based on their individual traits and accomplishments. People within generations also grow up in extremely varied ways, which influences their life trajectories and who they become. It’s a strange pattern, made even worse by the influence of social media on everyday life.
