Why gank at 3-4 minutes during lane phase?

I don't know what is going on or what meta has been found but I have noticed in one of my matches and one of my friend's matches that sometimes a player will abandon yellow lane to gank green or vice versa at around 3-4 minutes. Keep in mind i am ascendant 2 and my friend is initiate, so I might be missing out on something
