Who here has creative magical powers?
Hello and good morning to my super talented friends! I’ve been an artist for a while now (self taught realism ‘graphite and colored pencils’ and tattoo designs (gel pens and/or colored pencils).
However, I have transferred to a new expensive but worth it medium and need some help coming up with a “thinking outside the box” idea to store my tons of drawing supplies where I can make my own. I really like the fancy bamboo ones but I just cannot afford that. My first set of 48 markers came this last Christmas and I have already bought two new sets for a total of 208 alcohol markers and counting lol. I know they are supposed to be stored horizontally and that is fine if I keep them in their marker bags but then it isn’t as fun anymore because I like LOOKING at my art supplies and not get caught up trying to find something specific. It needs to be convenient.
I would also like the option to store more than one medium because my collection is starting to be too much effort. An old hack of mine when I had almost 400 cheaper colored pencils from different brands, I bought two large plastic silverware holders from the dollar tree and just assorted the pencils by color, so fork section was blues, spoon section the greens, etc. I ended up giving them away to my niece once I got better quality pencils. I dabbled in acrylic painting for awhile and I bought a small fishing tackle box that held all my paints and brushes. However, I learned I’m not a fan of painting. I draw using mechanical pencils so I don’t have to sharpen them constantly or stop between strokes to constantly add more paint.
I need ideas on something cheap that I can make/craft because on top of the 208 markers, you can see in my attached photos over 250 gel pens, 24 acrylic paint pens, 20 fine liners, several sharpies and white gel pens, 36 Prismacolor pencils, several other types of pens and pencils, paint brushes, I got that little carrier with handle for $7 from Walmart but I know my gel pens should be upside down or horizontal and the lids continuously get stuck at the bottom with the others. .
I also have the following supplies that I would like to have on hand: all areas for drawing accessories such as kneaded erasers, masking tape and masking fluid, finishing spray, stumps, sandpaper, scissors, exactoknife, gel pen refills, protractor, ruler, sketch pad, marker paper, charcoal, coloring books, etc.
I don’t like keeping the markers in the bag or the gel pens in the case, I’m impatient and need instant gratification, I do not wish to be looking around for one single pen or marker. Yes, that marker swatch sheet is homemade, it includes my three alcohol marker sets so the swatch sheet goes by color but then they go back to their original bags. Something aprobably last longer if they were stored on their side or upside down.
My apologies for the rambling.
Please show me your unconventional set ups along with the materials we’re used.
Edit- having trouble with photo, will add later.
