What do you think Fleabag's mom was really like?
Fleabag has been on my list forever and I finally sat down and binged it all in two days and now! I can't stop thinking about it. esp the 4th wall breaks with her knowing smirks and facial expressions, those got me every time. But I really enjoyed seeing Fleabag's growth and I like to believe that when she says "this is a love story" at the start of S2, it's an ode to her own journey of self-love. I think a lot of that revolves around her mom bc everyone says she's so much like her- so when she steals the sculpture of her mom back in the finale, I feel that it's her finally accepting herself and seeing herself in a new (positive) light. maybe even starting to see herself the way she saw her mom and pouring all that love she had 'nowhere to put' back into herself.
My question is, what do you think Fleabag's mom was really like? bc while I really liked fleabag throughout the series, she's definitely a mess in S1 and some of S2. I think she loathed herself and let others define her self-worth, but at the same time, she (quite literally) viewed herself as the lead character in a drama... her way of coping, ig? Everybody tells her that she's 'just like her mother (derogatory)' and though she loved her mom, she definitely had to have internalized that. At one point her stepmom also tells her that she's like her mother when she drinks and fleabag gets upset, so while she adored her, I don't think she idolized her or saw her as a flawless human being. So why do you think the other characters speak about Fleabag's mom the way they do, did they dislike her? and how much of it do you think was a true reflection of her personality?
