AITAH for neglecting my friendship to prioritize school?

I’m a 23-year-old female, and my ex-friend is a 25-year-old female.

I feel like I unintentionally neglected our friendship, which led her to cut me off. As a college student, I’m used to my friends not speaking for days because we all have busy schedules.

My ex-friend, however, isn’t in college. I don’t think she knows how demanding college is. I’m also planning to go to graduate, so I’ve been actively seeking experience to enhance my graduate school resume.

Before our friendship ended, we used to hang out every day and talk on the phone for hours. I was also distracted by a few talking stages I was in. When I realized I was falling behind in school, I decided to put my phone away and focus.

However, my ex-friend claimed to understand but somehow assumed I was tired of her. Whenever I took breaks from my phone or didn’t text her, we would always have problems. It was stressful because she never communicated her feelings to me until she had built up anger towards me. I found myself constantly over-explaining myself, which became annoying.

She was distant and didn’t respond to my texts. She did the same thing when she was mad at me before. I asked if everything was okay and if she was mad at me, she said no and claimed to be busy. I completely understood. I sent her a text, but she didn’t respond for days. I assumed she was busy like she said.

A few days later, she posted something that said, “I take my friendships seriously, and that’s why I don’t have any friends.” For some reason, this post completely went over my head. I had no idea it was directed at me. I thought it was about one of her other friends who she had issues with, so I moved on.

I believe a day later, I posted a picture with one of my other friends. He’s a full-time manager who’s also in his senior year of college. I barely see him anymore because of his schedule, so I posted a picture of him and I.

The picture upset my friend, and I noticed that she unadded me from everything. I was confused, so I texted her and said, “I noticed you unadded me. I wish our communication was better.” I said there were no hard feelings and left it at that. She did eventually reply.

She felt like I was being petty by posting that picture with my friend. She also felt neglected since I hadn’t spoken to her much. Instead of talking things through, she really just wanted to argue so our conversation did not go far. I would understand if I hadn’t talked to her for months, but it was really only for a few days. Honestly, I wasn’t too sympathetic with her because I’m not used to having friends who require daily communication.

I’m considering texting her after a month so that I can hear her full side of the story. She’s not the best at communication, so I also feel like the friendship ended because of a lack of communication. What do you all think?
