Moving from SaaS CFO/VP Finance to Value Creation Role at a PE Fund?

Hi all, would appreciate some perspective from those who’ve made the jump or sit on the fund side.

Background:

Currently VP Finance / CFO at a SaaS company. Prior to this, I’ve worked in SaaS across a couple of growth equity-backed businesses. Started my career in investment banking.

We’re currently running a sale process, so I’m starting to think about what’s next.

I’ve become increasingly interested in value creation / portfolio finance roles at the fund level, specifically roles where you work with portfolio company CFOs and leadership teams to drive performance (FP&A, KPI frameworks, M&A integration, etc.).

A few questions I’m hoping to get insight on:

1.	Is this a realistic transition?

Given my background (IB + SaaS CFO/VP Finance in PE-backed environments), is this a typical or achievable move?

2.	What titles / comp should I be targeting?

I’ve seen roles labeled things like Operating Partner, Portfolio Operations, Value Creation, etc. but not sure what level I’d realistically slot into and what comp ranges look like.

3.	What does the role actually look like day-to-day?

How hands-on are these roles with portcos? Is it more advisory, or are you actively embedded in execution?

4.	What’s the best way to break in?

Are these roles typically posted, or mostly filled through networks? Do funds use recruiters for these positions, or is it more informal hiring?

Appreciate any insight, especially from those currently in these roles or who’ve made a similar move.
