RIP Sunny

Well, I had typed up the below info last night to get input, but first thing this morning Sunny was definitely bloated and lilting to one side. I put him in the epsom salt bath and knew when he didn’t struggle at all with me moving him that he was probably not going to make it. He even let me handle him a little, so I checked his mouth and tried gently massaging the belly area. His vent looks a little inflated but not inflamed. Spent all morning with him but he passed before noon.

He was a big guy with a big personality and I am sad that he won’t be able to enjoy his new space outside.

(Typed up yesterday)

My large common goldie (7-8") is acting lethargic and seems to possibly be bloated but he is a muscular f\*er and it isn't blatantly obvious. I haven't seen him poop today, don't remember yesterday, but he definitely did Sunday. He wasn't coming for food today so I tried to feed him some peas, seems to have eaten one but spit out the second. No color change, no pineconing, not clamping or flashing but he will swim in a circle around the tank every once in a while then settle back into the same spot.

I am feeding peas and using epsom salt for a bath, but any other thoughts?

Usually feed 2x a day with fluval bug bites, once a week they get a veg of some sort (typically peas) and frozen bloodworms and mysis shrimp (melted in tank water). Tank has 3 fish- this guy, a stunted 4" comet, and a 5" oranda. Multiple mystery snails, MTS, and one nerite. Planted, sand substrate. Established for over a year, algae and diatoms for the nerite. Water change today of 30% (the typical change for this tank), ammonia 0- nitrite 0- nitrates 20. pH 8.0, temp 72F. 75 gallon. Use API. He is moving to an outdoor pond/trough after the weather settles down and some work we are having done is finished.

We were out of town for 6 days, he was fine on return, this happened after we were back for four days. For vaca, I did my typical slightly heavier feed T -2 days, fast T -1 and 50% water change as late as possible before leaving. No vacation feed, fasted during that time. Tested parameters on return and they were 0-0-20. I feed small once a day for 2-3 days after returning so they don't gorge themselves.
