Driving, but still feeling behind and “dumb” about it.

Asking for advice

I’m 25, I’ve had my permit since I was 19 but I just got my first car this year and have only really started driving since mid-March until now. I have tackled highways, merging onto the highway, roundabouts, unprotected left turns, passing on the highway, busy parking lots…I feel like skills wise, I have experienced all of the basics now and have actually been getting more comfortable with driving in general but I just feel dumb sometimes? Has anyone else been through this?

If it’s like a new intersection or place where I haven’t been to yet (coming out of parking lots or just kind of congested areas like that) I feel dumb and kind of confused even if it goes fine. I know I just started and am obviously still learning, but I don’t think I’m driving horrible enough to reflect the way I’m making myself feel about it.

My partner of 9 years and my sister have both been riding with me and both tell me I’m doing very well and I trust them to be honest with me. I don’t know, I just want to feel more proud of what I’m accomplishing but I keep having that nagging voice in the back of my head trying to make me feel like I don’t know how. Just wondering if anyone has any tips that helped them through this feeling or even if anyone felt that way previously and came out on the other side of it. Thanks for reading all the way through if you’re reading this!
