Found a mystery charged-off account from 2019 on my report - dispute strategies?
So I finally pulled my credit report after putting it off for way too long, and there's a charged-off account sitting there from 2019 that I have absolutely no memory of opening. It's showing as a $1,200 charge-off from some company I've never heard of. I'm pretty good about keeping track of my accounts and this one has me completely stumped.
Has anyone dealt with something similar? Should I go straight to disputing it as "not mine" or is there a better approach? I'm worried about just disputing it without doing my homework first, but I also don't want this thing dragging down my score if it's legitimately not my account. Any advice on the best way to tackle this would be awesome!
