Important Announcement
Hello everyone,
As our sub starts to get more active, I’d like to make this announcement to let you know what kind of space we envision this subreddit to be to make sure we are all, more or less, on the same page:
✅We are not a space where users are encouraged to one up another, drag each other into pointless arguments, be rude to one another because they disagree on a matter and we do not have sympathy or tolerance for general trolling or edgy behavior.
✅We also do not condone: Nationalist propaganda of *any* kind, any sort of political agenda, provoking, chauvinistic behavior and one-sided misinterpretation of history. You are welcome to have nationalistic pride and honor your country in your personal life, but please leave politics and nationalism out of this space and focus on historical facts. This is a space for everyone and all kinds of ethnicities. Thank you for understanding.
Anyone who is involved in above points will receive a permanent ban because we don’t really care to have a large subreddit where chaotic political rhetoric or personal attacks take over wholesome historical discussion.
What we have in mind, is a space where people can have a calm, wholesome discussion around history and have the maturity to reply to each other even when they disagree with certain points. We want to create conversations that are warm and welcoming, instead of competitive and exhausting.
We like to promote a neutral, objective, academically inclined discussion around Ottoman History, and focus on the female historical figures. We absolutely have no room for misogyny or male centered attitudes including but not limited to, e.g portraying Hurrem as a one dimensional manipulator, a witch etc. We are pro-woman space, meaning that we focus on Sultanate of woman ladies & Ottoman ladies from all the other periods, in a way male centered historical spaces has not effectively done until now. Male users are also welcome, but please keep these requests in mind.
You don’t always have to, but you’re generally encouraged to cite sources if you make big claims.
That said, everybody can make mistakes. Be gentle, and remember we can have a respectful conversation around this and put forward our opinion kindly.
If you are okay with the above, welcome again to our space, and if you’re not, I hope you can find community elsewhere. We are not growth oriented anyway and we are okay with keeping a small but like minded, respectful group.
