Question Regarding IR Standard Charges Options

I’m travelling to the UAE for about 2 months. I don’t really plan on using my Indian number, but I do want to keep it active in case I need to receive a call or make an emergency call.

My usage would be very minimal, probably 10 to 15 minutes total including both incoming and outgoing.

The issue is that Airtel’s IR packs seem insanely expensive for such light usage over 2 months. When I scroll below the packs, I see “standard charges” listed, like around ₹100 per minute for incoming, but there is almost no clear explanation of how this works in practice.

From what I understand:

I currently have a 1 year unlimited local plan in India

That obviously is irrelevant internationally

So I would be charged per minute based on IR rates but how do I add this money?

Do I use the talktime top up option and use the ₹1000 which gives around ₹847 talktime, and is that what will be used for the pay per use IR charges?

Or is an IR pack basically required for incoming calls to work properly?

Also, I’ve noticed that once you’re abroad, Airtel only shows IR packs in the app and hides normal recharge options, so I want to figure this out before I leave.

Would really appreciate if someone who’s done this recently or who knows how this works can clarify how it actually works. Airtel support has not been helpful at all and it’s almost impossible to speak to a human.
