My mom and dad both have the same cancer diagnosis and I’m struggling emotionally
My dad passed away from stage IV lung cancer (non smoker) 12 years ago. I was only 24 years old and he lived 8 months after diagnosis. He was a firefighter and they believed it was from asbestos. It was hard dealing with it when I was younger.
I’m now 36 years old. My mom just got diagnosed with lung cancer. Once again, she’s not a smoker. Hers isn’t as metastatic from the results received thus far be awaiting more information this week.
I was extremely close to my dad before he passed. After he passed, I became extremely close to my mom.
What are the odds that both my parents have lung cancer and non smokers? I’m absolutely devastated. I don’t have kids and I’m not married. There are no other surviving family members besides my brother. I don’t have friends. I’m sitting here alone in my room crying every day. I’m struggling so much to come to terms why this has happened
Have yall ever heard of this happening to 2 parents and how do I make sense of this? I’m not a smoker but should I get genetic testing or what should I do ? This is insane to me
