What braid styles are acceptable for white people?

I love braids. they're gorgeous. I also appreciate the cultural history around them. So for the sake of this question, I want to respect other cultures while finding a few different styles that are acceptable for my own. I can already do my own French and Dutch braids but I'm rather board of a single or double straight one down the back. What other options would be respectful yet stylish?
