Extreme fatigue
Bear with me whilst I recount my lupus history in order to get around to my question about fatigue. If we know anything about SLE we know it presents wildly variously in many people. Diagnosed in 2011 at age 61, notable symptom then was pleurisy. Over the next two years was treated with high doses of prednisone plus azathioprine, and hydrochloroquinine. Eventual pred tipped me over into diabetes type 2. Intermitent bouts of pkeurisy, then things settled down and diabetes remitted (yay). In the last three years experienced two bouts of lupus abdominal inflamtion requiring brief hospitalization. A month ago while traveling in Argentina, Had a bad flare and my first ever butterfly rash, it was a doozy but lasted only two days. Returned home a week ago and have been devastated by extreme fatigue.
It’s the fatigue I’m concerned about. It’s never been bad and, honestly, it’s incapacitating. Going in for labs tomorrow and will see rheumie next week. In the meantime, is there any insight here as to such extreme fatigue? Not presently taking pred but was for two weeks during last flare. Take hydrochloroquinine ever day. I should add that I loathe pred, even when it’s necessary and sometimes can’t decide which is worse: pred or untreated lupus.
