(MN) Apartment Lease Changed Under 30 Days Before Lease Begins

Landlord Tenant Housing

Location: Minnesota

I'll start by saying I'm well aware it's unlikely I can do anything in the situation but I'd like to see if there is anything given the situation.

I've lived in an apartment complex for the last 2 years and my current lease ends at the end of April(this month). Yesterday, the complex received an addendum to our lease which states we are no longer allowed to work on our vehicles on the property even if we are leasing one of the single stall garages. Unfortunately, this does not work for me as I have a vehicle which cannot be serviced at local shops. It would require a specialty shop if I didn't work on it myself, the nearest one is over 1.5 hours away.

I do not have a previous copy of the upcoming 2026-2027 lease as it was not available via the portal but I have my previous leases, including the one which I'm still technically on until the end of the month, which don't have this addendum listed. It looks like they uploaded a new copy of the lease prior to emailing everyone so there was no time to check if it was available. The lease also states that they retain the right to add anything to the rules of the property.

I asked about ending that lease agreement before move-in and was informed I will owe the equivalent of 3x monthly rent and be out my security deposit to leave the property. As I said, I'm sure they've covered their asses with the addendum notice ahead of time but just wanted to see if I had any options other than a public scathing review.
