potential AKI on CKD??

Advice

Hi everyone, I would love some advice.

My cat (9yo) had a dental surgery a couple weeks ago (a cleaning and extractions). Prior to this his bloodwork was completely normal. We brought him home and after 2 days of hiding and no interest in food, I brought him to the emergency vet where he was diagnosed with a urinary blockage and creatinine levels of 7. He was unblocked and put on IV liquids. His creatinine levels went from 7 to 8 overnight.

I brought him to a specialist the next day where he was unblocked again and his creatinine levels continued to rise to 9. He stayed there for 3 days and we contemplated putting him down until he started eating again after 6 days!!

The vet said he was ok to take home with subq and a bunch of other meds and was put on a urinary diet. 5 days (last friday) after we brought him home (urinating, eating, playing), we brought him back to the vet to recheck his blood and his creatinine rose to 10. He was switched to a kidney diet which he had no interest in it at first. other than that, the vet took him off all of his meds but to continue with subq. she gave us a prognosis of 3-6 months.

4 days later (this past tuesday) we brought him to a new vet and he got bloodwork done again, his creatinine levels are now 11 and BUN at 133 (we couldn’t really tell BUN before because the machines at the previous vets couldn’t read that high). the vet didn’t seem to be super optimistic but sent us home with elura, gabapentin, cerenia, a phosphorus-binder, and a recommendation to continue subq. Elura is definitely helping and he is devouring wet kidney food.

I have to take him back to the vet in 6 days to get his bloodwork rechecked and I am terrified. He is definitely not where he was pre-dental surgery but he plays, eats, and urinates (i need to call to ask about possible constipation). I want to have hope but it’s hard. This is my first and only cat. sorry for the chaotic timeline.
