Could embark remake ranked format?

I was thinking about all the matchmaking problems that people usually experience. These problems stem from the low player base so I thought, wouldn't it make sense for ranked to require less players? This could be achieved either by removing the first round or by making ranked a four-team gamemode. What do you think?
