M5 as a family laptop

We don’t have a dedicated desk space for a family desktop computer so always have just shared a laptop. The 3 kids (10-15 years old) have chromebooks during the school year but not during summers and don’t always bring them home. And our 10 year old laptop seems to be petering out.

Since husband and I have iPhones, kids have a shared iPad, and Apple Watches thought a MacBook might make the most sense to keep organization easiest. Not sure about the neo with 5 different users and don’t want 5 different laptops. Plus there will be some photo/video editing and occasional work usage.

The laptop sharing has always worked before but 1) not sure if the M5 is much more than what we need and 2) how much more fragile it would be than other laptops.
