MRI and MACI
I fell on a trail run and have had some knee issues ever since. Went to a doctor who did an MRI, and told me it looks like I could be in early stages of OA. I needed to deal with the pain, do PRP, and come back in 5-10 years to see about getting a new knee. I was 45 at the time.
I did the PRP, and it did nothing. Did cortisone injections, too. That did nothing.
Found a doctor that specializes in cartilage restoration. Had another MRI, and I got the report this time. It shows:
Tear of the medial meniscus
Partial thickness chondral defect in medial compartment
Multifocal full thickness chondral defect in patellofemoral compartment
Lateral compartment is intact
I don’t see the doctor until next week, and due to over-analyzing everything, I thought I’d see if there were any opinions of next steps.
To me, it doesn’t seem like OA but more related to trauma, which would make sense from the fall when all of this started.
I wondered if MACI would be appropriate to treat this, or what other options there may be.
