Reading Profs’ Papers

Is it weird/expected/awkward/etc to read the published papers of the faculty at an institution before attending the program?

I’m a prospective MSOT student, and after meeting some faculty at an open house for a program I’m interested in recently, I’m curious about the work many of them have written on and presented.
