I think I'm hyperlexic and that's why I wasn't diagnosed earlier

Diagnosis Journey

I'm not sure what made me think of this, but I was looking at my old evaluations for autism and for ADHD. I have both, but I was diagnosed with ADHD at 16 and autism at 19.

They IQ tested me both times and my IQ jumped by 6 points in between then, in every category, but the way my IQ is distributed is the same, so I think it's highly reliable in this instance. Plus I think I genuinely did get smarter in between 16 and 19.

Anyway, I have the characteristic valleys and peaks. My processing speed was 119 and my verbal IQ was 136. Everything else, save for the block test, was average. On the block test I think I was in like the 25th percentile or something.

But my reasoning for the title is that I am well spoken and I used to only read nonfiction from ages 7-12. So I had quite a few fun facts up my sleeve. And because of the nature of nonfiction being academic rather than literary, and in spite of me being well spoken, I wasn't very literary yet and I had to catch up with my peers. So I've always been gifted in reading and writing, just with nonfiction.

I've since been caught up. And actually it's been really beneficial for me. I'm a graduating college senior and I'm getting a BS in psychology and a BA in gender studies. I think those might have been the perfect majors for me because I love to read and write. I'm not really the type to want to do things like math (lol). I love reading studies and theory.

But if I hadn't had my talent for reading and writing I would have been diagnosed much sooner. My social skills were so very poor and I only feel like I have been semi caught up in the last two years.
