PSA: Don’t make projects that you like

Not gonna lie, I kinda stopped doing passion projects altogether.

At this point I only build stuff for recruiting. Like if a job description says AWS, Golang, databases, whatever, I’ll just make a project with those exact things. I’m not really trying to have fun with it anymore.

I used to do random projects I thought were interesting, but they never really helped. Recruiters aren’t gonna sit there and try to understand how your project connects to the role. They just want to see that you’ve used the tools they listed.

Also I use AI a lot when building these. I’m not gonna pretend I’m coding everything from scratch. But I do spend extra time making sure I actually understand the basics of what I’m using so I can talk about it.

So now I just treat projects like a check list for whatever a company is asking. It’s definitely less enjoyable, but it honestly feels way more practical. .

Idk, I know people say build what you love, but that just hasn’t worked for me at all. Curious if anyone else is doing this or if I’m tweaking.
