Why do so many self-help books focus on “doing more” instead of actually finding peace?

I’ve been noticing a pattern lately in many self-help and personal development books: they push productivity, discipline, and constant growth.

But very few actually talk about emotional peace or breaking out of unhealthy mental cycles.

I recently came across a book that explores this idea of “emotional chaos”, how we keep chasing things thinking they’ll fix us, but they actually keep us stuck.

It made me rethink how many books approach “happiness.”

As writers/readers, what do you think makes a self-help book actually impactful?

Is it practical steps, emotional depth, relatability… or something else?
