need advice about relationship
hi! my boyfriend (22M) has ADHD, and i (21F) knew this going into the relationship. we met at college and have been dating for a bit over a year now. recently, i have been having some issues with the relationship, and despite communicating this to him, nothing really changes.
he LOVES video games on his computer, to the point where it is almost obsessive. he will use the computer for nearly all of his waking hours unless he has to go to class or sleep. he will stay up until 4am screaming with his friends on the game, to the point where it is waking me up. the amount of time he spends on the computer leaves him with little time to spend with me. we don’t really go on dates anymore, and i spend most of my day alone. i feel as if the computer is a higher priority than me, and ive communicated this to him before. he apologized and sincerely felt bad, but the next day it was the same again with his screen time. he also chooses to stay home and play video games when i suggest we go out and do something (with friends, just us, doesn’t matter). most times, i’m going out with my friends and their partners, but my boyfriend is not interested in getting to know them better and leaving me alone. when i do convince him to come out with me, he’s usually in a god-awful mood and can be quite rude and combative to me and whoever we’re around.
on top of the computer, he doesn’t seem to know where to go with his life, while i have a solid plan. ive talked with him before about what he wants to do after we graduate college, but he wants to work a minimum wage job while i go to law school, and after beyond working, he doesn’t know what to do with his life. i’ve tried to suggest paths that would suit his interests, but he doesn’t like talking about it.
is there anything i can do to help him out? i want this relationship to work out because he is truly sweet and amazing, but im feeling very deprioritized by him and i don’t see much of a future with him if he doesn’t want to spend time with me or build himself a stable career. i know ADHD complicates things and he doesn’t necessarily “operate” like a neurotypical individual, so if there’s a better way i can communicate my feelings with him and convince him to make some healthy changes in his life, please let me know :) thank you in advance
