Anyone lost a sense of smell and how did it impact your sensitivities?

I've just read one scientific paper, that, if I understood it correctly, claims that we're not reacting to chemicals, but to scents. That we perceive scents as hazardous and that fear triggers all the subsequent reactions. I don't think it works quite that way, but just got an idea which would help to prove or disapprove it. Anyone contracted covid and lost a sense of smell? If yes, it would be very interesting to know, how did it impact your sensitivities, if at all?
