In my opinion, starters should be somewhat simplistic; they should take an inspirational concept and a personality that progresses over the evolutions, and that's it (though it's debateable of course).

Here are the simplistic lores for each one of my starters:

The **Rollo line** is inspired by the European Roller, a bright, clumsy, surprisingly beautiful bird, and its character progression is a clumsy baby bird who knows nothing about life, to a nerdy bird who struggles to socialize, to a gym bro who's covering it lack of self-esteem with looksmaxxing.

**Rollo** is not bad at things so much as it is early. It blows bubbles at threats, misjudges landings, and looks genuinely startled by its own wingspan. There is something quietly lovable about a creature this unfinished.

Somewhere along the way, it becomes **Wierollo**, and the clumsiness gets redirected into obsession. It has read everything. It annotates while flying. It only struggles to make some friends.

And then, without much warning, it becomes **Bro-llo**. It surfs now. The books are gone. The jawline arrived with some unhealthy looks, maxxing procedure, and the sunglasses shortly after. It likes to hit the gym more than it likes to hit its opponents.

The **Ringo line** is inspired by the ringtail cat — a small creature with a long tail. The tingo line has an attention/fights seeking personality that only get worse when it evolves.

**Ringo** picks fights it doesn't need to pick, in places it wasn't invited, with opponents who were minding their own business. It is exhausting to be around and magnetic for the same reasons.

When it becomes **Ringump**, it discovers that jumping through a burning hoop made of its own burning tail is possible, and therefore mandatory. The passion for fighting hasn't changed. The production value has increased significantly.

**Rinja** has many tails and seventeen ways to end a fight, and it has ranked them by how good they look. It always saves the best for last — the tails fanning out, the flames spelling 'K.O.', the opponent already on the ground.

The **Mushy line** is inspired by a Chinese dish made out of green onions and black mushrooms. In the Pokémon version, the wide mushroom cap becomes a kung fu master's triangular hat, and the green onion base becomes the body of a fighter. As the dish is inspired by a Chinese mushroom dish, it's only natural to make the Pokémon go on a Kong-Fu studying journey. Mushy is a rock/grass type, as the black hat of the mushroom is made out of a rock.

**Mushy** is a bok choy sprout wearing a stone hat two sizes too big. It waddles, it grins, it knows three kung fu moves and practices them on anyone willing to watch.

The smile disappears when **Kongmush** arrives. Carelessness has turned into quite dedication for cultivation. It's practicing every day all day.

By the time it becomes **Mushter**, the urgency is gone, too. It sits. It breathes. The stone cap that once wobbled on Mushy's tiny head now rests like it was always meant to be there. Students travel far to learn from it. It teaches them the same three moves. They finally understand why.
