Hey r/Lavalamps,

I’ve been lurking here for a while. Like many of you, I often find myself staring at my lamps for too long, so I decided to recreate that feeling as a side project.

You can find the app at this link: [App Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/lava-3d-fluid-art/id6760262582)

For the past few months, I’ve been working on an app called Lava. I wanted to move away from the cheap 2D animations you usually see and actually simulate how the wax merges and splits. It uses raymarching and metaballs, so the blobs really goo together when they touch.

I added a variety of styles. There’s a classic mode, but also some unique options like Liquid Chrome, X-Ray, and a Neon look that I’m quite proud of. You can poke at the blobs to change the flow or tilt your phone to move the liquid around.

I’ve had some questions, but right now the app is iOS only. I’m a solo developer and built this specifically for iPhone, so there isn’t an Android version at the moment. Sorry to the Android users!

The app is free to use, but there’s a one-time purchase Pro upgrade that unlocks all the custom color pickers and extra rendering styles. There are absolutely no ads or trackers in the app, even for the free version!

Here are some codes for the community to have the Pro upgrade for free:

I’d love to hear your thoughts! I'm always trying to change the gravity and heat settings to make it feel more real. Also any suggestions for more rendering styles would be welcome :)

Cheers!

I’ve been obsessing over “flow” physics lately, so I built a little pocket lava lamp for iPhone (promo codes inside!)
